The contours of the cycling National Teams' expedition to the World Championships in Rwanda are taking shape. The most evident element will be the full participation, with the maximum number allowed by UCI rankings, of Elite and Women Elite National Teams, with eight athletes. The total number of the Italian contingent has been set in recent days, taking into account the particular difficulties of a trip to Africa and considering the technical characteristics of the routes. 45 people will fly to Kigali, of which 27 are athletes. This demonstrates how the effort to rationalize an expensive expedition will not minimally affect the competitive aspect. Contrary to what some media hypothesized, the Italian contingent, in terms of the number of athletes, will be in line with recent years.
"The Federation never thought of limiting its possibilities," said President Cordiano Dagnoni. "I thank the Secretary General Tolu and Team Manager Amadio for their great work, which allows us to contain costs while guaranteeing full and quality participation. This year we will again be one of the largest delegations, present in every category and with well-founded hopes of results. I want to emphasize that giving up some professionals was not an easy choice as these are primary importance figures. With everyone's commitment, staff and personnel will still provide excellent service to the athletes."
"Since the Tour onwards," commented Team Manager Amadio, "the results obtained have changed the technical perspective. Over the years, we have always made our choices based on actual possibilities, and this year, on particularly challenging routes like those in Kigali, we have adjusted accordingly. Based on this principle, unlike other countries, we have chosen to be present even in minor categories. It is evident that for the elite, the situation has changed in recent days, and it was natural to plan maximum commitment."
