Next Saturday, May 24th, during the 14th stage of the 108th Giro d'Italia, the Treviso-Nova Gorica/Gorizia 195 km route, will pass through the streets of Cintello di Teglio Veneto, a small town in the Venice province located in the Eastern Veneto, with a great cycling tradition. This is an event with the flavor of history and collective emotion; in fact, after over 22 years, the "Pink Caravan" will return to make the hearts of Cintello's inhabitants vibrate.
"It's almost like a fairy tale - said with emotion Gianluca Geremia, President of the Cintellese Sports Group 1987 and former professional cyclist - but now it's all true. We managed to bring the Giro d'Italia through our small streets, right where in 2002 Gilberto Simoni passed wearing the pink jersey, in a stage leading to the mythical Monte Zoncolan".
The credit, he explained, also goes to RCS Sport, which welcomed the request from the local sports society with sensitivity and attention. It is also necessary to extend heartfelt thanks to the Veneto Region for this wonderful initiative. "With this passage, we give the community, and especially our registered children, an indelible memory". A touching coincidence, however, accompanies the news: the announcement arrived on the day commemorating the passing of Dante Geremia, historical soul of the "Giallo Fluò" association, tireless promoter of sports and youth cycling. "It's also for him - Geremia continued - that we want to color Cintello pink and experience this event as a great celebration".
The City Mayor, Oscar Cicuto, who was immediately supportive of the initiative, emphasized the symbolic and cultural value of the event: "We are the last municipality in Eastern Veneto - he specified - but we have a cycling history to be proud of. May 24th is also a historic date for Veneto, linked to Italy's entry into World War I: it will be a doubly special day."
The Giro d'Italia advertising caravan will pass at noon, while the cyclists will transit between 2:15 PM and 2:30 PM. The Sports Group has therefore invited the entire citizenry to take to the streets, applaud the cyclists, and pass on the passion for this sport to the younger generations. The celebration appointment is also set for the eve of the passage, Saturday, May 24th, with a big party open to everyone. "Cintello turns pink. And waits for the Giro"
