Following the example and professionalism of a master like Alfredo Maranesi, who passed away last June, the Velo Club Mendrisio chaired by Livio Ferretti has begun planning the 2026 season. The amateur group, led by Davide Botta, will be enriched by trainer Emanuele Piazza (an Italian from Zurich), team managers Emanuele Albini and Matteo Botta, and mechanics Giuseppe Colombo - a historic figure of the Swiss society - and Filippo Vanoni.
"We have added important and committed figures to the technical staff, such as our two former amateur riders Albini and Vanoni, and Piazza himself," highlighted team director Botta. "They all have the qualities to offer added value to the team's high-quality level. Moreover, they synthesize the team's balance and the valorization of Italian roots. We will work organically and with common intentions to promote the growth of our riders, respecting the sporting values that Maranesi was able to transmit to us".
In the 2026 team of the Velo Club Mendrisio, whose origins date back to 1901, there are 16 riders, seven of whom are Italians in the Under 23 category. These include the confirmed Alessandro Bonalda and the new riders Fabio Banfi, Simone Castelli, Valerio Martinoli who comes from mountain biking, Matteo Piva, Matteo Pio Ruggiero and Jordan Vignati.
The Swiss contingent includes Johnatan Rinner, Augusto Restivo, Elia Felsberger, Sirio Trisconi, Mats Poot, Luca Buhlmann, Francesco Caruso and Melk Zumstein, who in 2025 competed in some races as a trainee with Tudor. The team also includes the confirmed Aronne Antonetti, who will primarily participate in Gravel races.
