During the first rest day of the Tour de France, Soudal Quick-Step announced that Ilan Van Wilder has signed a contract to remain with the team until 2028. Joining the team in 2022, Ilan has gradually transformed into one of the most consistent riders in the group, someone who is also able to compete in one-day races, time trials, and stage races.
The numerous solid results he has accumulated in the last four years speak volumes about the progress he has made and the hard work he has done in these seasons: winner of the general classification at the Deutschland Tour, a spectacular solo victory at the Tre Valli Varesine, third overall in Algarve, among the top five in Burgos, Luxembourg, Poland, Romandie, and UAE, and top ten in Tour de la Provence, Paris-Nice, Itzulia Basque Country, and Tour de Suisse.
The 25-year-old Belgian, currently racing the Tour de France alongside Remco Evenepoel, feels at home here and has accepted a new three-year contract offered by the team after the numerous positive results he has achieved for himself while wearing their jersey and the impressive amount of work he has done for his teammates.
"I am happy to have signed a new contract with the Wolfpack. It's a great team to race for, I feel very good here, and one of my life philosophies is that if you feel good in a place, there's no need to make a change. I want to continue improving, I'm confident I can take another step forward and, at the same time, achieve good personal results, but also together with my teammates. I'm glad to continue here for the next three years," Ilan said after putting pen to paper.
"We are obviously happy that Ilan remains with us. He is a solid rider, with the right mentality and correct approach to cycling, which is evident from his results and the amount of work he does for the team. He can achieve excellent results in stage races, but also in one-day events and time trials, which makes him a versatile rider that we are pleased will continue to call Soudal Quick-Step home for the next three years," said the team's CEO Jürgen Foré.
