FOUR-PEAT! And what a four-peat! Mads Pedersen (Lidl Trek) in the cyclamen jersey conquers his fourth victory at the 2025 Giro d'Italia by winning the thirteenth stage of the "Pink Race", the 190 km Rovigo-Vicenza, after dueling with Wout Van Aert (Visma Lease a Bike) on the explosive slopes of Monte Berico. Third place for the pink jersey Isaac Del Toro. The young UAE Team Emirates rider, after piloting his teammate Ayuso to the intermediate sprint (four bonus seconds for the Spaniard and two for the Mexican), was clearly the best among the general classification riders.
THE STAGE - After a start with attacks and some wind gusts that caused difficulties for some athletes in the early stages of the race, a group of nine riders took advantage: the Vicenza native Luca Mozzato (Arkéa - B&B Hotels), the Croatian Fran Miholjević (Bahrain - Victorious), the Belgian Dries De Bondt (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), the Norwegian Sven Erik Bystrøm (Groupama - FDJ), the Lazio rider Lorenzo Germani (Groupama - FDJ), the Bergamo native Lorenzo Milesi (Movistar Team), the Australian Chris Hamilton (Team Picnic PostNL), the Trentino rider Mattia Bais (Team Polti VisitMalta) and the Empoli native Filippo Magli (VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè). Born at the twelfth kilometer, this action quickly gained two minutes over the group controlled by the yellow jerseys of Visma Lease a Bike with Lidl Trek and Q36.5 ready to help.
At the GPM of Passo Roverello the Rovereto native Mattia Bais anticipated Chris Hamilton and Luca Mozzato while at the Intermediate Sprint of Noventa Vicentina Bais left behind Dries De Bondt and Filippo Magli.
Just before arriving in Madonna di Lonigo, hometown of Davide Rebellin, Dries De Bondt took the Intermediate Sprint of San Bonfacio ahead of Filippo Magli and Mattia Bais while the peloton was 1'42" behind.
Towards the GPM of San Giovanni Monte, with the pink jersey group getting closer, Lorenzo Germani broke away and took the lead gaining seconds on his breakaway companions; shortly after, his adventure companions were caught by the group led by INEOS Grenadiers, unleashed in an attempt - successful for a few kilometers - to select the group and put opponents in difficulty. In the midst of the chaos Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana Team) burst out of the group like a lightning bolt, reached the breakaway Germani, passed him at the San Giovanni in Monte climb, winning the mountain prize and then continued with him leading the race in tandem.
The Brescia native and the Lazio rider passed in order also at the passage in the finish area (also valid as GPM) and at the sound of the bell, the pink jersey group was reported 35" behind. At the sign indicating ten kilometers to the finish, Lorenzo Germani sat up waiting for the group after a long day in the breakaway.
The race situation changed at the Red Bull KM. Scaroni passed in front but at his wheel were Ayuso, Del Toro and the entire group that came back together for a moment before the attack by Romain Bardet (Team Picnic PostNL) followed by Mathias Vacek (Lidl - Trek).
The Frenchman and Pedersen's Czech companion did not spare energy but had to surrender when Van Aert, Pedersen, and Del Toro opened the gas, closing the gap. A moment later the sprint was launched and the cyclamen Danish rider gave another victory to Lidl Trek.
Tomorrow the Mexican Del Toro will restart from Treviso with the pink jersey still on his shoulders and a small treasure of 38" over his teammate Ayuso. At 1'18" Antonio Tiberi maintains the third position. Bernal, Gee and Caruso enter the top10 of the General Classification.
