A concrete act and gesture of goodwill, conciliatory and constructive words to restore a peaceful climate for the good of the cycling movement, from organizers to riders, including those who love cycling, like all of us: the fans. The Italian professional championship Asti-Cuneo also served this purpose, to ease tensions, misunderstandings and old grievances between the Italian Cycling Federation and the Professional Cycling League, between Cordiano Dagnoni, the head of all cycling, and Honorable Roberto Pella, president of the League. Prompted by the excellent RAI commentator Francesco Pancani, who with absolute grace encouraged Pella to speak, and he not only had the merit of responding with clarity, but did so with absolute conviction. Italian cycling needs anything but this wall-to-wall confrontation, Pancani said. "I agree with you, we must do it, because we all share a unique love which is that of two wheels and the promotion of this fantastic sport. And that is why I am certain that everyone, from one side and the other or even internally and externally, shares the single value of promoting it. I am not just confident, but I am extremely optimistic, all things can be accomplished and when there is will and, I am certain of it, you will see that we will achieve them, just as I am convinced that like us, the Federation and Cordiano Dagnoni – whom I thank – shares our same objective. Unity and teamwork are absolutely necessary to achieve great results. What matters is our tricolor. Sport needs economic support as well and institutions must be united and compact to achieve great objectives together".
Words that leave no doubt, that cannot be misunderstood, clear as the purest water. A change of direction, a U-turn that gives good reason for hope and opens up dialogue that we hope can happen soon. At the moment, let us recall, the Cycling Federation confirmed in last Monday's Federal Council the suspension of the agreement between the Cycling Federation and the League. This means blocking activity. Blocking resources. Stopping those aids that went to help organizers who these days are not just passionate, but authentic heroes. Well, the outstretched hand gesture by President Pella is a tangible sign of goodwill. The tangible sign of institutional recognition that Cordiano Dagnoni, after months of lack of communication, rightfully requested. Today a tricolor step towards easing tensions: let's hope so.
