A small excerpt about a dated, very dated document (if we want to call it that...), reproduced here, which testifies to the sense of belonging, proudly preserving an almost remote past, always jealously guarded and sometimes exhibited over the years, always carefully kept in the wallet, almost like an iconic "holy card".
It is simply a list on a modest and somewhat frayed cardboard, with printed characters somewhat, indeed, very faded of the G.S. Nuova Baggio San Siro and its members - athletes, managers and technicians with each one's landline phone number and social headquarters, the Society's headquarters and the Vigorelli Velodrome number. Today such a contact list would be defined as a "roster" with the widespread Anglicism. Mobile phones were still in an embryonic phase, with related accessories.
This premise to explain an episode at the end of Damiano Capodivento's funeral, in Caronno Pertusella.
After the crowded and participated funeral a distinguished gentleman, accompanied by his wife, approached Fausto Ferrario, owner of Ciclofer and Publifer in Saronno and a well-known figure in cycling also for his professional activity still ongoing and, in his good days, a valid reference for the technical and managerial staff of patron Alcide Cerato's team, the "dominus" of the formation and a prominent manager at national level.
The distinguished gentleman approaches Ferrario and greets him, with the latter somewhat surprised that, at the moment, had hesitated to recognize him. We're talking about almost forty years ago, one more, one less. And immediately the unrecognized gentleman opens his wallet and shows the testimony reproduced here and photographed in somewhat precarious conditions.
And everything comes back with the typical cordiality of cyclists who still press on the pedals or simple ex-cyclists. He was very proud of his relic GUERINO Mauro, as the list states. He recognized his technical-athletic skills as a rider not at the highest levels but preserves the testimony of a sense of belonging that places him with important names even from professional cycling that appear on the list.
For him, the memory of having pedaled for an important group is enough before moving to the large group of cycling enthusiasts.
It is his business card, his cycling passport of passion and memory, between holy card and credential-amulet, which he has kept in his wallet for decades. And Fausto Ferrario, after a specific search, specifies the exact number of years passed since then: 38.
