UAE Team Emirates Xrg. 10 and praise. 74th victory of the season and this already says a lot, if not everything. It's a dream team that can rely on incredible riders. They start in the final part and perhaps find even better wind compared to Lidl-Trek, who in any case put on a great performance. Ayuso sumptuous (now second in the standings at 8"), Almeida (3rd at 8") absolute master of a team that dreams big. We are only at the beginning, but it's clearly visible how it might end and, above all, who will fight until the end for the final victory. Their trial time? 25'26", at an average of 56,800.
VISMA Lease and Bike. 9. They insist on staying together, perhaps a bit too much. In the end, however, they bring home a 2nd place by just 8" which allows Vingegaard to return to where he was: in the red jersey.
LIDL-Trek. 8. Carlos Verona goes straight in a skid in a curve and fortunately ends up against the soft advertising of a TNT, not the barriers. They arrive in four and set the best time (all their intermediate times are the best): 25'35" at an average of 56.600 km/h. All this until UAE arrives and sweeps everything away. However, their excellent performance remains, absolutely. Ciccone is there, in the jersey zone, 5th at 9": today we all hoped a bit. He was there, but there he remains.
RED BULL Hansgrohe. 7.5. Matteo Sobrero skids and falls heavily, violently hitting his head. The guy stays on the ground for a while, seemingly stunned. Then, with relative calm, he reaches the finish line with evident signs of the fall on his face. His teammates still put on an absolutely top-level performance: only 3" separate them from Lidl-Trek at the finish line. Then, as for everyone, UAE and Visma arrive and sort things out a bit. Good for Hindley and Pellizzari, 8th and 9th in the general classification at 20".
INEOS Grenadiers. 5.5 Among the big teams, the 5th final place is precisely the minimum union standard. The team was equipped and starts well too, setting the best intermediate time, then some automatisms fail and some big names have to proceed at a more accommodating pace so as not to "tear everything apart". Bernal is still there, 10th at 22" from the Dane.
MOVISTAR. 6.5. Aular at a certain point, in a fast curve, ends up in the grass without falling. He stays balanced and rejoins. From how it starts, there's cause for concern, from how it ends, there's reason to be satisfied. Cepeda is 11th in the general classification at 25" from the red jersey.
Q36.5 PRO CYCLING Team. 7. Not bad the performance of Tom Pidcock's team. Level performance and a partial, at the time of their arrival, very good: second only to Lidl Trek, by 13". Then, as for all others, the perfect storm of UAE and Visma arrives. But that's okay too.
GROUPAMA-Fdj. 5.5. The team is also well-equipped, Gaudu has teammates who could help him if needed, but they don't go beyond a 7th place. It's not bad, but they could certainly have done better.
LOTTO. 8. They start first because they are last. Spanish bikes, Orbea, lenticular rear wheel, high-profile front wheel. Lars Craps skips the first changes. The initial momentum belongs to seven riders, after a couple of kilometers he also enters the action. For a team like this, a more than good result, a 10th place worthy of applause.
BAHRAIN Victorious. 5. Very disappointing performance for Antonio Tiberi's formation, which slides back further: now 23rd at 58".
ISRAEL PremierTech. 8. Performance affected by a block of "Pro-pal" protesters. They suffer a heavy slowdown, but the performance overall is not even that bad.
SOUDAL Quick Step. 5. For Landa too, the day is to be forgotten. There's little to say: without protests in between, they do little better than Israel: a manifesto of a bad day.
