A victory strongly desired at all costs was achieved by the Biesse Carrera Premac in the 84th edition of the Two Provinces Tour in Marciana di Cascina in the province of Pisa, a classic whose first edition dates back to 1911.
Federico Iacomoni won two days after his twenty-third birthday, and it was right that it happened this way, thanks also to his teammate Dati from Tuscany, who initiated a solo action 27 km from the finish line and was joined by Iacomoni 15 km from the finish. The Trentino rider from Biesse Carrera Premac, we recall, was the victim of a frightening accident in November 2023 when he was frontally hit by a car during training, suffering fractures to his left arm, pelvis, and sacrum, with pulmonary contusions. It ended in triumph with a parade finish and Iacomoni crossing the line first to celebrate his first victory in Tuscany, ahead of Dati, who has already won four races this year.
Biesse Carrera Premac's determination to win was evident in the first breakaway of the day, which involved ten riders, four from the Lombard team, three from Team Hopplà (clearly a challenge between these two teams), and two from Trevigiani Energia Pura Marchiol. After the initial attempt was reeled in, a subsequent breakaway occurred 75 km from the finish, with ten athletes, including three from Biesse Carrera (Dati, Iacomoni, and Arrighetti). The peloton was no longer able to recover, and just before the -25 km marker, Dati made a decisive move, reaching the summit of Castel di Nocco climb (four passages) and being joined by his teammate Iacomoni. The two quickly gained half a minute, which they then doubled as they flew towards the finish line in Marciana di Cascina.
This edition was record-breaking not only in the number of teams present (29) but also in the number of riders at the start (176) and the final average speed of over 47 km/h. It was a beautiful, fast race, with the satisfaction of A.C. Marcianese's president Sergio Casarosa and Massimiliano Anichini, the race director, thanks to sponsor and institutional support, with the presence of Cascina's mayor Michelangelo Betti, sports councilor Francesca Mori, and for the Tuscany Regional Cycling Committee, its president Menichetti, vice president Micheli, and councilor Diolaiuti.
