Unfortunately, Mattias Skjelmose will not be able to participate in the Tour of Switzerland as planned, due to his recent illness and a slower recovery than expected.
In Mattias's own words, an explanation of what he is facing: "Unfortunately, I will not be racing the Tour of Switzerland. A few days ago, I mentioned that I had been sidelined for about a week due to a stomach infection, but that I was starting to train again and regain strength and rhythm. Shortly after, the illness returned, more intense than before, but fortunately passed quickly. We have done several tests and are still waiting for the results to get a clearer picture of what is happening. After discussing with the team and my coach, we decided not to race the Tour of Switzerland. There is not enough time to return to the level I desire. Now the goal is to recover properly, find my rhythm, and rebuild what I have lost. From here on, everything revolves around being ready for the Tour de France. Consequently, the first stage of the Itzulia Basque Country was my last race wearing the Danish national time trial champion jersey, at least for now. It has been a true honor to wear it for an entire year. This season has been a silent lesson in patience for me. Not everything stops with noise; sometimes you simply lose rhythm. This is how I have felt during this period. It has been frustrating, yes. But I have learned to listen, not to rush. To recalibrate without losing sight of the path ahead. This is not the first time things have not gone as planned, and it will not be the last. But being honest about my current situation does not make me less committed. On the contrary, it makes the goal even clearer. The Tour de France is still the priority, and I am completely focused on being ready on July 5th."
