RIDE GREEN 2024, CLOSING THE NINTH EDITION OF THE PROJECT DEDICATED TO THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE GIRO D'ITALIA

Closed the ninth edition of Ride Green, the social responsibility project of the Giro d'Italia dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability, which promotes the safeguarding of areas crossed by the race through the organization of waste sorting with a traceability and monitoring system. An initiative that continues to record important results, not only for local promoters but for the numerous Partners who, together with RCS Sport, share its values and utility. Ride Green is complemented by environmental education promoted through BiciScuola and the sustainable mobility of Giro-E, the e-bike experience that takes place on the days and roads touched by the Pink Race.
The latest edition of the Giro d'Italia generated, in start and finish locations, a collection of approximately 70 total kilograms of materials, of which 84% was sent for recycling. Compared to 2023, the first three virtuous arrival municipalities have increased their separate waste collection by an average of about 6%. An interesting signal that confirms the important contribution of local institutions, which with their active participation act as intermediaries between companies and consortia, recruiting volunteers throughout the territory in eco-islands, in order to ensure proper flow management. An effective presidium that allows the Giro d'Italia to position itself in the international panorama as a cycling sporting event increasingly attentive to the environment, capable of spreading sustainability principles and making the public, local administrations, partners, and all involved athletes aware.
Below is this year's ranking elaborated with the E.R.I.C.A. Cooperative, the partner that has been alongside RCS Sport in this process for years.

INTENTS
Ride Green is part of the broader R-INTENTS project, aimed at analyzing the real environmental and social impact deriving from the Giro d'Italia to establish a dialogue and comparison with the entire ecosystem, identifying shared solutions that can guide the evolution of design towards regenerative economic models. Accompanying RCS Sport on this path is NATIVA - Regenerative Design Company. The analysis work on the Giro d'Italia aims to highlight both the virtuous practices of the event and the areas for improvement, to guide future choices. Not only tangible impacts are considered, but also that intangible value that is part of the DNA of a sporting event: people's well-being and the impacts on territories, also with a long-term perspective.
