The Derek Gee case takes another turn. It all started a few days ago when Israel Premier Tech, the team where the Canadian national champion has been racing since 2022, announced that they had received a request from the rider's lawyers to terminate the contract currently valid until 2028.
Late this afternoon, three days after the team's statement, the rider published a message on his social media stating: "I confirm that my contract with Israel Premier Tech has been formally and duly terminated by my lawyers. It was not an easy decision to make, but it comes after careful consideration and for well-founded reasons. Certain situations did not allow me to continue my stay with the team".
The 28-year-old athlete from Ottawa, who some rumors suggest is close to Ineos, further explained in his note: "Contrary to what has been read around, this decision concerns only my previous contract with Israel-Premier Tech. In compliance with the rules of the International Cycling Union, I have not signed anything, nor have I spoken with any other team".
The message from the winner of O Gran Camiño 2025 concludes with a heartfelt thank you to the athletes and staff of Israel Premier Tech.
Following Gee's message, the Israeli team issued a concise statement: "Israel – Premier Tech remains firm in its position, confirming that Derek Gee's contract with the team is valid. The situation is now in the hands of the UCI and legal representatives to be resolved. No further comments can be made at this time".
The situation will certainly have further developments that tuttobiciweb will follow and report to you.
