A gaze and a kiss towards the sky. Cristina Tonetti crossed the finish line of the Grote Prijs Yvonne Reynders in Herentals, Belgium, as a winner. The 23-year-old from Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi completed the 123 kilometers, finishing about ten seconds ahead of Teniel Campbell, who returned to racing in Europe with Smurfit Westrock Cycling Team, and Eline Jansen of VolkerWessels Cycling Team, who completed the podium.
The race, held on a local circuit near Herentals, was animated by American Heidi Franz (Cynisca Cycling) who, after breaking away from the group immediately after the start, remained in the lead for about sixty kilometers before being caught by the peloton. Another action saw Piedmontese Beatrice Caudera (BePink - Imatra – Bongioanni) and British rider Henrietta Colborne (Velopro-EGS Group-Alpha Motorhomes) in a breakaway for about twenty kilometers before being caught by the group.
Riding through the narrow streets of the circuit, the peloton thinned out and some athletes had to deal with crashes. In the final phase of the race, attacks were not lacking: Canadian Katja Verkerk (Cynisca Cycling) launched a breakaway, soon followed by a group of six including Cristina Tonetti (Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi), Alba Teruel (Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi), Meike Uiterwijk Winkel (BePink - Imatra – Bongioanni), Eline Jansen (VolkerWessels Cycling Team), Aniek van Alphen (Fenix-Deceuninck) and Teniel Campbell (Smurfit Westrock Cycling Team).
It was the 27-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago - returning to racing in Europe - who attacked again, dropping Teruel from the breakaway group.
With four kilometers to go, Tonetti gained meters and then seconds of advantage that she maintained until the finish line, where she could rejoice in her first victory in the top category.
