"I'm ready for my second Giro d'Italia! Compared to last year, I have more confidence, and the second place at the Italian Championships last weekend gave me even more faith in my abilities". These are the words of Monica Trinca Colonel, a 26-year-old athlete from Liv AlUla Jayco who will lead the Australian team in the eight stages of the "pink race". "Sunday I'll be at the start in Bergamo, knowing I've prepared very well for this event, and I'm very curious to see how far I can go," added Monica, who in 2025 has already distinguished herself by finishing fourth in the general classification at the UAE Tour Woman and seventh at the Vuelta Espana
In this Giro d'Italia Women adventure, the Valtellina cyclist will be joined by 24-year-old Dutch rider Silke Smulders, who returns to the RCS Sport race after finishing thirteenth last year and after adding to her resume a tenth place at Strade Bianche 2025 and second place in the general classification of the Santos Tour Down Under in January.
Also part of the Liv AlUla Jayco team at the Giro d'Italia Women will be Quinty Ton, another Dutch cyclist, who comes to the race after a ninth place in the final general classification of the Tour of Britain Women: the 1998-born athlete will look for opportunities to hunt for success. A similar approach for the 23-year-old Swedish rider Caroline Andersson, who will arrive in Italy after finishing just off the podium in the national road championship.
In stages that might end in a sprint, like the one finishing in Monselice, Liv AlUla Jayco will rely on Georgia Baker, who had a good start to the year in Australian races and also placed in Le Samyn des Dames and Brugge-De Panne. Completing the Australian team at the Giro d'Italia Women are debutante Josie Talbot and the Australian national Criterium champion Amber Pate
Leading the athletes from the team car will be Gene Bates, who spoke about the race's objectives: "Our goals are to support both Silke and Monica in the most difficult stages and in the general classification. Both have already achieved great results this year, and this will be another important step in their development, in a longer and more challenging Giro. Beyond this, the team will hunt for stages whenever the opportunity presents itself"
