In the Giro d'Italia Women that will start on Sunday from Bergamo and conclude on July 13th in Imola, the main objective of Lidl Trek will be to hunt for stages. The US-based team has chosen to tackle the "pink race" by focusing on the great experience of Lucinda Brand (at her fourteenth Giro d'Italia, ed.) and Amanda Spratt (at her eleventh participation) but also on Fleur Moors, a 19-year-old Belgian fresh from a podium at the national championship and winner of Dwars door de Westhoek, and Isabella Holmgren, a 20-year-old Canadian who secured her first career victory in the Durango – Durango race in May.
"For Bella and Fleur, the Giro will be their first important stage race, the priority is to gain experience and learn from their more experienced teammates. They have no pressure in terms of results. But if an opportunity arises to get into a breakaway or fight for a stage, they will absolutely have the freedom to try," said Sports Director Ina-Yoko Teutenberg speaking about the two young debutants.
The team's general classification rider will be Shirin van Anrooij. For the 22-year-old Dutch rider, returning to the Giro d'Italia Women two years after her first participation, the stage of the pink race could represent a great opportunity to showcase herself.
Anna Henderson, British time trial national runner-up, will aim to be a protagonist in the opening time trial. "It's a discipline where she truly excels, and we are confident she can deliver a great performance. Then we'll look for opportunities in breakaways or in challenging finales. Anna can leverage her strengths to seek a result," Teutenberg declared.
Completing the Lidl Trek lineup at the Giro d'Italia Women will be Lauretta Hanson, a 30-year-old Australian, who will have the task of supporting her teammates in all stages.
