Météo-France has placed the Corrèze department on red alert due to an exceptionally intense heatwave. In light of this situation, it has been decided to adapt the route of the ninth stage of the Tour de France, which will take the peloton from Malemort to Ussel.
This decision is necessary due to exceptional weather conditions. The objective is to allow the event to take place under conditions compatible with the red alert level of the heatwave.
Consequently, it was decided that:
- The route of the 9th stage is reduced to 155.5 km, compared to the initially planned 185.5 km, representing a shortening of 30 km;
- the start is scheduled for 13:45;
- after the parade in Brive-la-Gaillarde, the race will leave the original route to take the D921, before returning to the planned route in the town of Lanteuil, 147.8 km from the Ussel finish line;
- the riders' arrival is now expected around 17:30.
All state services, local authorities, security forces, emergency and health services, approved civil protection associations, volunteers and all stakeholders mobilized remain fully committed to ensuring the proper running of this stage.
In this context of high temperatures, everyone is urged to take appropriate measures to protect themselves and the most vulnerable people. It is recommended to hydrate regularly, limit exertion during the hottest hours and follow the instructions issued by the authorities.
