Jonas Vingegaard smiles, knowing the question is coming right away: is it the last day wearing the blue jersey of the climbers, will he be in pink at the Pila ski resort above Aosta tomorrow? "Ah, it would be an honor for me to take the pink jersey tomorrow. Obviously, it's a difficult alpine stage, we'll see how my legs feel and how the race goes, but the team will definitely be ready for tomorrow," Jonas explains, having dropped everyone on the climbs at Blockhaus and Corno alle Scale. In the standings he's second, 33 seconds behind Portuguese rider Eulalio in the pink jersey, and the Giro will present eight stages with 4 mountain-top finishes: Aosta/Pila, Carì in Switzerland, Alleghe-Piani di Pezzé and Piancavallo (to be done twice) on the eve of the final parade in Rome. The Aosta stage is short and that makes it brutal: 133 km, 4,350 meters of elevation gain, a full 50 km of climbing.
The team, as Jonas said: Campenaerts setting the pace, Kuss and Piganzoli his last men to launch the great favorite for the final victory on the climbs. And regarding his health conditions, the Visma-Lease a Bike leader explains without hesitation: "Right now I'm feeling very good. It's true, I was a bit sick in the past few days, just a little cold and cough, but nothing serious: now everything is fine".
