Spanish rider Jon Barrenetxea (Movistar) claimed an authoritative victory at the Boucles De L'Aulne 2026 just 24 hours after yesterday's success in the Tour du Finistère Pays de Quimper. Second place went to Frenchman Clément Venturini (Unibest Rose Rockets), third to fellow Frenchman Maxime Vezie (CIC Pro Cycling Academy) and fourth Lander Loockx, Venturini's teammate. The five riders finished ahead by just a handful of seconds of another Frenchman David Gaudu (Groupama - FDJ United) and then Ecuadorian Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda (Movistar) and Pierre Thierry (TotalEnergies) who made up the day's breakaway group, which departed 58 km from the finish.
A powerful and decisive sprint from Barrenetxea, who opened up on the slightly uphill final straight of the French semi-classic that started and finished in Châteaulin after 177.8 km, resisting without any difficulty Venturini's attempted comeback. The strong Spanish rider is in a state of grace following yesterday's victory in Quimper and will attempt to capitalize on the best moment of his career so far in the upcoming French races, the Classique Dunkerque / Grand Prix des Hauts de France and the 4 Days of Dunkerque. For his part, Venturini demonstrates great consistency with his fourth consecutive top-ten finish after third place at the Tour du Finistère, eighth at the Tro-Bron Léon and fifth at the Grand Prix du Morbihan.
Multiple but unsuccessful breakaway attempts characterized essentially the entire first half of the race, which had no Italian riders at the start. A sizeable group with Braden Reitz (Decathlon CMA CGM Development Team), Jonathan Lastra (Euskaltel – Euskadi), Louis Hardouin (Van Rysel – Roubaix), Jonas Walton (CIC Pro Cycling Team), Tom Mainguenaud (Nice Metropole Côte d'Azur), Noah Bögli (Elite Fondations Cycling Team) and Rodrigo Contreras Pinzon (Nu Colombia) attempted to gain an advantage, but was reabsorbed at the 120 km mark. Then Valentin Retailleau (TotalEnergies), Victor Guernalec (CIC Pro Cycling Academy), Simon Guglielmi (St Michel – Preference Home – Auber93) and Carter Guichard (Nice Métropole Côte d'Azur) tried their luck, without much success. The successful breakaway took shape 58 km from the finish with David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ United), Pierre Thierry (TotalEnergies), Clément Venturini and Lander Loockx (Unibet Rose Rockets), Jon Barrenetxea and Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda (Movistar Team), Lucas Beneteau (St-Michel-Preference Home-Auber 93), Maxime Vezie (CIC Pro Cycling Academy) and Alex Molenaar (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA).
The peloton attempted to close the gap desperately, while up front the breakaway gradually lost riders. Worth noting was a rather lively Gaudu, who attempted to anticipate the finish without much success. The sprint among the attackers rewarded Barrenetxea.
