The upcoming Tour de France next July will be without Christophe Laporte. The thirty-three-year-old from La Seyne-sur-Mer was unfortunately involved in a training crash in recent days which, as revealed by the medical examinations he underwent in the past hours, caused him a rather significant quadriceps injury.
This injury will force the French rider to spend the coming weeks away from his bike without the possibility of training and, as a result, he will not participate in either the Tour de l'Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes or subsequently in the Tour de France, both races that he had originally included in his calendar for the months of June and July.
"Obviously, it's a huge disappointment. I had a great spring classics campaign and was ready to begin my preparation for the Tour de France" commented the third-place finisher at the last In Flanders Fields through the team's official channels.
"Of course, I was really looking forward to the upcoming events and especially the Tour de France, but now I'll have to focus completely on my recovery so I can return as soon as possible" clarified the 1992-born French rider, destined for the second consecutive year to watch the most important stage race in the world from his home couch.
Indeed, in 2025 as well, Laporte, a 34-time race winner in his career and this season winner of the first stage of the Vuelta a Andalucia, had been forced to withdraw from the Tour due to the virus that kept him sidelined until early August: like last year, his withdrawal will deprive his team of a key element in the race for Jonas Vingegaard's yellow jersey and will force the leadership of the yellow team to find an alternative to properly replace him.
