Finally, for cyclists from Brescia and all of Italy, Christmas arrives in the form of great news. After years of work, nerve-wracking bureaucracy, and sometimes unfounded controversies, there is finally an end to the dispute over the Montichiari Velodrome. The facility, inaugurated in 2009 and closed in July 2018 (after hosting world and continental championships) and opened in recent years only for national team training, has finally received the green light for a new renaissance.
The provincial entertainment and spectacle commission has given the necessary approval for the facility's reopening, verifying that the necessary agibility conditions are met according to current regulations. Consequently, the facility's dissequester, which had already been prepared by the Prosecutor's Office, is now valid, subject to the commission's approval. To quote a satisfied Mayor Marco Togni: "Today (Wednesday, ed.) the last visit and commission meeting was held and the Velodrome has been reopened!"
This does not mean it will be immediately operational, but that it is "free" to be so and has all the necessary "papers" in order, once management aspects are defined. "At the beginning of the new year, we will meet with the Italian Cycling Federation to agree on management aspects and finalize everything," Togni tells us, recalling that, based on previous commitments, the Federation will manage it. So if there's time during the winter season, even for youth teams, access to our track, the only covered velodrome in Italy, will be possible.
