A lot of Netherlands and in the middle a very brave Sara Casasola who in the European Cyclocross challenge for elite women takes home a fourth place that feels tight for the Friulian. Title goes to Inge Van Der Heijden, a 1999 Dutch from Schaijk in North Brabant, who right from the start took the lead and was never caught again. Fourth place for the Italian from Crelan Corendon after a tough battle with Dutch riders Brand and Van Alphen. A continuous back and forth throughout the race interpreted by Casasola in the best possible way but which unfortunately saw her medal dream fade due to a fall on the sand in the penultimate of the six laps scheduled by the program. At that point Brand and Van Alphen accelerated, keeping the unlucky Italian at a safe distance. Silver for Brand, bronze for Val Alphen. A disappointed Casasola just behind.
As for the new European champion, she was second in the distant 2018 in S'Hertogenbosh (Netherlands) among the under 23s behind her compatriot Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado.
