Isaac Del Toro is once again dictating the law in Italian races. The UAE Team Emirates Mexican has conquered the Veneto Tour by leaving all his rivals behind ten kilometers from the finish and raising his arms to the sky in Verona to celebrate his nineteenth career victory. Completing the team's stupendous day was Pavel Sivakov's second place, who anticipated the group sprint won by Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility), who took third place, with Eric Antonio Fagúndez (Burgos Burpellet BH) in fourth, and Simone Velasco (XDS Astana Team) finishing fifth. Italy's Zana and De Pretto, both from Jayco Alula, also performed well, finishing ninth and tenth.
After an initial phase without too many surprises and mostly riding in a compact group, at kilometer 64, Elia Viviani (Lotto), with number 1 on his back on the day of his last road race, broke away. With him, Mikel Retegi (Equipo Kern Pharma), Davide Bais (Team Polti VisitMalta), Sakarias Koller Løland (Uno-X Mobility), Storm Ingebrigtsen (Uno X Mobility), Michele Bicelli (Biesse - Carrera - Premac), Kevin Pezzo Rosola (General Store - Essegibi - F.lli Curia), and Filippo d'Aiuto (Petrolike) also gained an advantage.
The eight leaders pedaled in agreement until Verona, passed the finish line once, and then began the climb towards the Torricelle. Viviani first dropped off, then Bicelli. A sextet remained in the lead but was "hunted" by the group in strong pursuit, led by UAE Team Emirates, which passed the finish line 53" behind with four laps to go.
The breakaway definitively ended 31 kilometers from the finish when the group, still led by Sivakov and teammates, caught up with the early escapees. As happened this morning in the women's race, the strong pace set by the Emirates team - along with Uno X and Groupama FDJ - on the Torricelle climb made the selection and reduced the potential winners.
Shortly after the bell for the last lap, Del Toro made his intentions clear: a sudden acceleration and off towards the finish line. Romain Grégoire tried to follow the Mexican phenomenon but was soon forced to give up and let Isaac take yet another victory in a great season.
DEL TORO'S WORDS AFTER THE FINISH. "It wasn't easy to win, the entire team worked with great commitment, I attacked on the last climb and managed to capitalize on the work my teammates did. It's truly incredible to have secured another success. Now it's time to close the season, this was the last race and winning was beautiful".
