Fear of new protests has led the Vuelta organizers to shorten tomorrow's time trial, which will now be just 12.2 km instead of 27.2 km.
"To ensure better protection of the stage, the Vuelta organization, in coordination with the Valladolid City Council and after consultation with the commissaires' panel, has decided that tomorrow's time trial will take place on a 12.2 km route, with start and finish in the initially planned locations": this is the official statement released by the organizers this evening after a meeting.
This is stage number 18 of the Vuelta, which has almost daily been endangered by pro-Palestinian protesters who are particularly trying to target the Israel-Premier Tech team.
On Wednesday, most activists had gathered peacefully at the foot of the final climb, and the peloton was able to pass without problems, but other stages had previously been shortened or partially neutralized due to the presence of protesters on the road or at the finish. Regarding the arrival in Madrid on Sunday, there are currently no route variations.
