It was a quiet day for Jonas Vingegaard and his Visma – Lease a Bike team, and at the end of the twelfth stage, the general classifications remained unchanged. The Danish champion is the leader in the general standings, but while today's stage was relatively calm, tomorrow with the finish at Angliru many things could happen. Vingegaard will face this Asturian climb for the third time and will try to be the first to reach the finish line and increase his gap from his competitors. "The Angliru is a brutal climb. It is very, very tough and I remember that on this climb I made a name for myself when I first came to the Vuelta – said Vingegaard – Tomorrow I will tackle it for the third time and I hope to have good legs to do it. It is an iconic climb for the Vuelta and it is very special".
The objectives of Visma-Lease a Bike are stage victories and the general classifications. At the end of this twelfth day of racing, the Dutch team is satisfied because they have obtained 2 victories with Vingegaard and are leading the general classifications with a 50" advantage over Almeida and 56" over Pidcock.
"We are focused only on ourselves and up to this point we have the red jersey and two stage victories: today our goal was to finish the stage without losing time. Looking at these results for the rest of the Vuelta, we can be super satisfied with how things are going".
Tomorrow will be an important day and the two-time Tour de France winner could go in search of a special victory, after the one that slipped away in Bilbao due to the neutralization of the stage.
"Friday we must see how the legs will be. It would be a dream for me to win on the Angliru, it is one of the most iconic climbs of the Vuelta, so yes, it would be something incredible, truly the realization of a dream".
