Summer has begun its final rush, autumn is approaching, and with it come the great Italian late-season classics. In Lissone, preparations are already underway for the Agostoni Cup - Giro delle Brianze 2025, now in its 78th edition and scheduled for Sunday, October 5th, 2025. The only professional race taking place entirely in the Brianza territory has become an unmissable event for enthusiasts from the area and beyond, who year after year manage to fill and color the streets of Lissone and its surroundings.
The Agostoni Cup will traditionally open the Lombardy Region Trilogy (to be followed by Coppa Bernocchi and Tre Valli Varesine) and is part of the Regions Cup project by the Cycling League, created to showcase territories, races, and teams. The innovation introduced last year by the SC Mobili Lissone organizers convinced both the public and experts, so in 2025 the race will again develop on a slightly shorter but more intense and unpredictable route.
In total, 166.7 kilometers will be covered, starting from Via Bottego, km 0 in Via Catalani and finishing in Via Matteotti, all in Lissone. After an initial flat section of about 20 km, riders will enter the famous Lissolo circuit, which fans know by heart but which never loses its charm and history. The loop is 28 km long, will be repeated 4 times, and features three climbs: Sirtori (1500 mt at 4.9%), Colle Brianza (3.8 km at 6%), and Lissolo (5.4 km at 4.3%). There are no impossible gradients, but a total of 12 climbs will be tackled, and selection will happen naturally. After exiting the circuit, 35 flat kilometers will lead back to Lissone, where anything can happen, with attacks and reshuffles possible.
"The idea from the route team to shorten the track to favor spectacle proved successful last year, to the point that we all decided to propose it again in 2025 - explains Alessandro Rolandi, president of SC Mobili Lissone. The confirmation of the date on the UCI calendar also allows us to return to organizing the Sunday race with significant advantages, fewer traffic disruptions, and the possibility of attracting many more fans to our roads. We are confident that this year will also produce great spectacle, with top-level teams and athletes".
The race dedicated to Ugo Agostoni has attracted cycling legends since its very first edition in 1946, and one only needs to look at its honor roll to understand this. From Felice Gimondi to Eddy Merckx, passing through Italo Zilioli, Franco Bitossi, Roger De Vlaeminck, Francesco Moser, Giuseppe Saronni, Giovanni Battaglin, Maurizio Fondriest, Gianni Bugno, Andrea Tafi, Jan Ullrich, Laurent Jalabert, Filippo Pozzato, Davide Rebellin, Sonny Colbrelli and, last year, Marc Hirschi, to name just a few.
