Excellent news has arrived these days with the inclusion, by the Italian Cycling Federation, in the National Calendar on Saturday, September 20 of the prestigious and classic Alta Padovana Tour Elite-Under 23 race, organized by Veloce Club Tombolo, chaired by Amedeo Pilotto and with the overall coordination of Pierluigi Basso.
The race, reserved for Elite and Under 23 riders, was reintroduced last year after a brief pause due to organizational reasons, and this year celebrates its 2nd edition. It boasts a notable Honors List that highlights the 2009 Olympic and World and European Champion, Elia Viviani. The competition is the third stage of the International Trophy Grand Prix Città Murata 2025, which has already included the 39th Giro del Medio Brenta held on July 3 and the 49th Gran Premio Sportivi di Poggiana on August 10.
The race, as is well known, was conceived by professional race director Pierluigi Basso, who first included it in the 1998-2001 quadrennial as a stage of the Giro del Veneto and then from 2002 with Veloce Club Tombolo as a single event. It is a much-anticipated appointment both for its important route and for its technical requirements, as it includes the major teams of the category.
The event, which was previously defined as the "Indianapolis of Two Wheels", from this year, as anticipated by Pierluigi Basso himself, is honored with the nickname "Speed Classic", that is, the classic of speed.
High averages have always distinguished the Alta Padovana Tour, which has varied routes with spectacular long and more compact line circuits (like world championship rings), with straight lines and mixed sections on extra-urban and city roads.
Memorable is the 2005 ex-aequo victory of Donadello-Margaret from the same Trevigiani team, with Donadello again in 2006 (unique bis) and Zalf désirée Fior with six victories and various podiums, as well as many important teams and athletes who have participated.
Cittadella will be the central headquarters of the gathering and departure (since 2013 at the Piercesare Tombolato Stadium in synergy with Calcio Cittadella) and of many finish lines, as well as those in Galliera Veneta (four times 2011-2014) and Tombolo (four times 2015-2017 and 2024).
The race has always been held in May, and from this year it will be replicated in September and, like the last edition, on the same circuit with departure from Cittadella and the insertion of the Tombolo-Onara-Cittadella-Tombolo ring of 8.4 km to be repeated 16 times for a total of 139 km and with a final straight of 1.6 km. Every detail will be presented during its presentation conference.
