The conclusion of the Tour de France also means Post-Tour Criteriums. Belgium, France, and the Netherlands are the nations interested in hosting the show-stopping events that have passionate millions of fans for decades.
So far, nine Criteriums have been held featuring Thymen Arensman, winner of the Superbagneres and La Plagne stages in the recent Tour. The Dutchman from Ineos Grenadiers has won in Boxmeer, Surhuisterveen where he beat Jonathan Milan and O'Connor, and in Heerlen ahead of Groves and Van Poppel. Meanwhile, Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick Step) won in Roeselaare over Wellens and Nys and just last night in Emmen (Netherlands), beating Van Poppel and Del Grosso (5th Affini).
The series was initiated by Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates XRG) who, the day after the end of the Grand Tour, triumphed in Aalst, overtaking Merlier and Nys.
The green jersey, Jonathan Milan, could not be missing from the roll call, who in Chaam (Ned) left behind the usual Merlier and Van Poppel. In Herentals, it was a triumph for Wout Van Aert (Visma Lease a Bike), winning against Milan and Groves. The Wateringen event was instead conquered by Olav Kooij (Visma Lease a Bike) over Van Poppel and Van Sintmaartensdijk.
The circuit carousel will continue tonight with the traditional Draai van de Kaai in Roosendaal (Netherlands), then tomorrow in Steenwijk, followed by Oostvoorne, Zevenbergen, Etten Leur, Naaldwijk, and the grand finale in Almelo on August 29th.
