Jonas Vingegaard closed the Tour de France without wearing the yellow jersey and without winning any stage. The Dane was the only one to respond to Tadej Pogacar's attacks, but all his attempts were in vain and in the end the gap was over 4 minutes. Vingegaard knows he did everything possible and therefore has no regrets and is confident that he has worked well and is in excellent form. Analyzing the data, one can see how the Danish champion was faster compared to last year, and even compared to 2023, when he won his second Tour de France. Tonight the curtain will fall on the Tour de France and Vingegaard is already looking with interest at the Vuelta a España.
In 2023, Jonas Vingegaard had already participated in the Spanish race after the Tour de France. That year, the Dane finished second in the general classification, behind his teammate Sepp Kuss. The Dane has announced his participation in the Vuelta and his preparation will begin after spending a short vacation with his family in Denmark.
"Last year, at the end of the Tour de France, I was completely exhausted, this time it's much better. After the end of the Tour, I'll take a week off, then start thinking about the Vuelta. But now let's focus on finishing the Tour".
Today the yellow race will move towards Paris for its final act. The Montmartre climb will make the stage exciting, but Vingegaard doesn't like this change much and has no intention of taking risks trying to arrive first at the last finish line of the Grande Boucle.
"All riders will be extremely tired and completely exhausted. One might think the best thing would be to have beautiful Olympic television images, but that climb is so narrow that we'll have to deal with very hectic moments".
From these statements, it can be understood that the Dane will almost certainly not try to win the stage and therefore we won't see him at the front of the race on the cobblestone climb crossing Paris's center.
"No, I don't think you'll see me up front. I've criticized this stage so much that it would be stupid to try anything. Better to make sure I'm safe and arrive at the finish line healthy and sound".
Vingegaard wants to enjoy the last stage and his intention is to pedal calmly to the finish line. "It could be a dangerous stage. It's tricky inside the city, with lots of pavé and narrow streets. It's a real stage and anything can happen. The time differences in the classification are so large that nothing will change. It will be a tough day and we must only think about crossing the finish line without taking risks".
