Tadej POGACAR. 10 and with honors. Tomorrow never dies, and today Tadej does exactly what he had in store: he wins. Here, on Peyresourde, some scenes from episode 18 of 007 were shot. And here he starts without a time trial bike, but with his road bike, for his very personal mission impossible. He starts without earphones because he doesn't want to be disturbed. He does what he does best: pedal. Give him a bicycle, and if it's a Colnago, even better, and he'll lift not just the world, but also your spirits. Fourth victory in this Tour, 21st in the Grande Boucle (the youngest ever to reach this number), 15th this season in 35 races contested, 103rd in his career, with 46 yellow jerseys worn so far. Tomorrow Never Dies is a 007 movie title, Tadej is currently 004, like his victories in this edition, but there are still some scenes to shoot: 007 is warned.
Jonas VINGEGAARD. 9. He loses by 36" from a phenomenon, and he knows it. The Danish rider's satisfaction, who started with a time trial bike and helmet (unwatchable) on his head, is having reached and surpassed none other than Remco Evenepoel. He couldn't have dealt a stronger blow to the Belgian, and perhaps it won't be the last. He believes in himself, he says. Tour finished? "Absolutely not!" Tadej is warned.
Primoz ROGLIC. 8. They would like to write him off, but perhaps the Red Bull Hansgrohe should wait before drawing conclusions. The Slovenian "jumper" puts on a high-quality time trial. A third place that tells us he's still in the fight for the podium.
Florian LIPOWITZ. 7. He does an excellent time trial, but finishes behind his team captain, conceding 36". Not too many, but not few either. A substantial fourth place that tells Red Bull they have the future in their team.
Luke PLAPP. 7.5. He does a top-level time trial, until the level rises. Finishes fourth: not bad at all.
Matteo JORGENSON. 6.5. The 26-year-old American tries to keep his name up with a decent performance after a difficult day.
Oscar ONLEY. 8. The 22-year-old from Picnic is now a confirmed talent and today again presents himself among the Tour's best. It was supposed to be an important exam for the Scotsman, and he passes it with flying colors. At the moment, he's among the group's best young riders.
Adam YATES. 7. He has no desire to waste time or bask in the sun: so he goes up quickly.
Lenny MARTINEZ. 6.5. He does a level time trial, searching for the right pace.
Remco EVENEPOEL. 4. If the time trial tells the truth, it says at least two things about the world champion. After ten days of Tour, the Belgian is no longer the planet's best time trialist; a race like the Tour is not his. He's obsessed with becoming Merckx, but his illustrious and immense compatriot is from another galaxy. There's only one person projected towards new worlds, and it's not him. He thought he had reduced the gap to Tadej and Jonas, but there are two others ready to insert themselves and push him back to a zone that's not his - that of the extras. Perhaps he should only think about one-day classics, where he's clearly one of the great champions. The Tour, as long as there are so many mountains, cannot be within his reach.
