We are used to seeing Tadej Pogacar with the yellow jersey of the general classification leader, but tomorrow the Slovenian will start with the polka dot jersey of the climbers' classification. This year the polka dot jersey turns 50 and for the Slovenian champion, it will be exciting to wear one of the most iconic jerseys of the Grande Boucle.
"I've worn it, I believe, only once in my six Tours de France, so tomorrow will be the second time ever that I'll dress in polka dots, if I've counted correctly".
The public loves the white jersey with red dots drawn on it, because it represents the rider who is not afraid to attack on climbs and who often becomes the winner of very difficult mountain stages. "I can't wait to wear it tomorrow, because people really like it. The public loves the polka dot jersey, and it's a special feeling to wear this symbol".
After a first stage dedicated to sprinters, today's emotions were not lacking in the stage ending in Boulogne sur Mer, where the victory was a matter between Pogacar, Vingegaard and van der Poel. The success went to the Dutchman, who also conquered the yellow jersey, while Pogacar finished second in front of Vingegaard. "It was a truly, truly incredible stage. There was really everything. Rain, stress, frenzy, danger, short climbs and it was just like in a Classic. In the end, I had good sensations and as a team we raced really well. But Mathieu was the strongest at the finish line today and I'm super happy to have finished second".
The third stage will again see sprinters as protagonists with the finish in Dunkerque, while attention must be paid to the fourth day of racing, which will once again be characterized by continuous climbs and descents towards Rouen and then on Wednesday there will be the time trial in Caen, where the general classification could be completely redrawn.
