For Ineos Grenadiers, this will be a truly special Tour de France. There will be Carlos Rodriguez as the leader and then Geraint Thomas, who will race his last Grande Boucle and will say goodbye to competitive cycling at the end of the year. Ineos has a precise strategy for this Tour de France: to win stage victories and be at the top of the general classification.
The Spaniard finished fifth and seventh in the Grande Boucle in the last two seasons and now aims for a good final classification. Carlos Rodriguez will be supported by the Dutch rider Thymen Arensman, Norwegian Tobias Foss, our Filippo Ganna, French rider Axel Laurance, and British riders Connor Swift and Samuel Watson, who just won the national title on Sunday.
«It was a bit of a difficult start to the season with the February accident, but I recovered quite quickly and since then I've continued to rebuild my season - Rodriguez explained, referring to the crash during the UAE Tour -. The goal has always remained the same: to arrive at the Tour in July in my best form. So far, everything has gone according to plan. I managed to prepare well with high-quality training and I have good legs. Of course, it will be a tough race against the world's best, but we'll take the field fighting and aim to always stay at the front. It will be an epic race and a true spectacle for fans».
As mentioned, this will be Thomas's last Tour de France. The British rider has participated 13 times in the yellow race and won in 2018 in front of Tom Dumoulin and his teammate Chris Froome. Then in 2019 he finished second and in 2022 third.
«I can't wait to race my last Tour de France. It will be my fourteenth and it sounds crazy, I would never have imagined being here today. It's something truly incredible. I've certainly had my ups and downs, but it's an incredible race; the biggest and most beautiful in the world and undoubtedly my favorite race. It's never simple and always super difficult, but this year my approach will be the same as always: give everything on the road so that the team achieves the maximum possible success. We'll all have an important role to play and I will certainly do mine. I can't wait to arrive in Lille and immerse myself in the spirit of what is always a roller coaster event. A three-week all-inclusive bicycle vacation around France, what's not to like?!».
