Elisa Longo Borghini confirms herself as the Italian road champion and conquers her sixth Italian title by crossing the finish line solo and with arms raised in Darfo Boario Terme after 130 kilometers of racing. The UAE Team ADQ captain defeated Monica Trinca Colonel (Liv Alula Jayco) and Eleonora Ciabocco (PicNic PostNL) who complete the podium of the national competition.
The decisive move, after a race made challenging especially by heat and wind, came 21 kilometers from the finish when the 33-year-old Piedmontese rider left behind those who until that moment were her breakaway companions and went on to conquer yet another success in her remarkable career.
This is Longo Borghini's third consecutive title, and she will now aim to confirm herself in the pink jersey at the Giro d'Italia Women.
The extreme heat and a rather demanding course put the athletes to a tough test. Of the 123 starters, only 24 reached the finish line, and of these, 6 were from the Under 23 category.
