As announced by the Alpecin-Deceuninck rider on his Strava profile, Luca Vergallito will not be participating in the Giro d'Italia 2025. Expected to make his debut in the home Grand Tour after his first three-week stage race last year at the Vuelta Espana, the Milan-born 1997 rider has been forced to withdraw due to a problem with his saddle area.
"No Giro for me this year. The motivation was high and the form was good. Unfortunately, an issue in the saddle area doesn't allow me to have the necessary stability to face three weeks of racing. In the coming days, we'll evaluate whether to proceed with a small operation," revealed the winner of the 2022 Zwift Academy, whose program will clearly depend on the decision to undergo surgery or not.
In the meantime, what is certain is that the many fans of the "Bandito" will not be able to cheer for their favorite rider on home roads (stage 18 of the Giro, the Morbegno-Cesano Maderno, would have passed just a few kilometers from his home in the Lecco area) and that Alpecin-Deceuninck, with Vergallito being the only Italian representative in the Belgian team's World Tour roster, will compete in the Giro without Italian riders.
