Soudal Quick-Step and AG Insurance – Soudal have today announced the launch of #SHINEFORSAFETY, an initiative aimed at creating awareness about road safety for cyclists. To mark the start of the campaign, riders from both teams wore an exclusive Electric Lime Castelli Aero Race 8 and Thermal LS high-visibility jersey during this morning's reconnaissance of the Liège-Bastogne-Liège route. They will also wear it during the team presentation on Saturday, on the eve of the race.
The Wolfpack takes its position of influence on fans very seriously and wants to take clear responsibility for the safety of all cyclists. The team's athletes train on roads they must share with drivers and pedestrians, and the goal is to encourage cyclists to be as visible as possible, for the safety of all road users. The jersey is the first step in a series of safety initiatives that will culminate in the integration of high-visibility elements related to improving road safety into race kits to be used in 2026.
"In this project - explain the Belgian team directors - we are supported by our numerous partners and sponsors, who recognize bicycle safety as symbiotic with their work practices. Soudal, AG Insurance, and Quick-Step all have their own internal safety initiatives that reflect our position, and, of course, Safety Jogger are experts in protective work clothing that helps workers in a wide range of sectors. The campaign is also supported by our sponsors Renson, Ekopak, Specialized, and Janom, and aligns with Napoleon's Always Keep Control message, which emphasizes the importance of responsible behavior and creating a safer environment together. And our cyclists always train with the Garmin Varia™ RCT715 rearview radar with camera and rear light, as well as the new Varia Vue front camera, which record clear and sharp videos and include lights that help raise awareness for our cyclists day and night".
Speaking about the #SHINEFORSAFETY initiative, our CEO Jürgen Foré stated: "I recently spoke publicly about safety for our cyclists, not just in races. Our riders train on open roads and we must understand how we can help them and other road users to be as safe as possible. We believe this jersey not only highlights the presence of our cyclist but also the issue of safety as a theme. Our hope is that it also reaches the many fans who watch our team and are inspired to cycle, to stay safe when they enjoy pedaling".
Kim Le Court of AG Insurance – Soudal also stated: "I love the bold design of the new kit, it's impossible not to notice it. Visibility on the road is everything, and if the #SHINEFORSAFETY initiative makes drivers notice us even just a second earlier, then it's doing its job. As cyclists, we risk our lives every day just by being out there. Whether it's for living, for fun, or simply for a trip to the supermarket. I myself have had more than a few close calls, and that's why I will always stand for anything that promotes road safety".
And finally, two-time Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel added: "I really like the #SHINEFORSAFETY jersey and what it represents. I don't need to tell anyone about my accidents and we all must learn to better share the roads we train on. I think that not only the jersey but the entire premise of the campaign is a great idea, and we are grateful to all those who support it".
