Jai Hindley was born looking at the ocean, in Perth, Australia, but it's in the mountains that he found himself. For a climber who emerged and established himself on the peaks of the Giro d'Italia, with second place in 2020 and triumph in 2022, the Tour of the Alps is an appointment tailored just for him. A true confrontation, with high technical complexity, coming at a very important moment of the season.
The 28-year-old Australian, who in 2023 also wore the yellow jersey at the Tour de France after winning the Pyrenean stage in Laruns ahead of Giulio Ciccone and Felix Gall - two rivals he will also meet on the euro-regional roads - is the leader of a very ambitious Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe team. Supporting Hindley at the Tour of the Alps will be Danish rider Wandahl, New Zealander Pringle, along with Germans Jasch, Herzog, Zwiehoff and Toni Palzer, the former alpine skiing champion who made his professional cycling debut at the #TotA 2021.
"I can't wait to be at the start line," Hindley began. - "The Tour of the Alps is a very beautiful and equally challenging race, representing a very important appointment at this stage of the season and on the road to the Giro d'Italia".
The Tour of the Alps is a prestigious stage that every year attracts champions and pure climbers, drawn by a route that tests riders in every stage, without granting respite despite the contained kilometers and never excessive altitudes.
In 2021, Hindley had already measured himself on the roads of the Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino Euroregion, obtaining a sixth place in the Feichten im Kaunertal stage before withdrawing due to illness. Four years later, the Australian will return with a richer background, a Giro d'Italia in his trophy cabinet and the desire to rediscover those sensations that only the Alps can give him.
"From the 2021 edition, I remember the challenging stages and very beautiful climbs, as well as a consistently high technical level. I'm excited to return to pedal on these roads, in one of the most beautiful regions in Europe," Hindley said.
Waiting for him at the Tour of the Alps, besides Italians Tiberi and Ciccone, Tyrolean Gall and reigning champion Lopez, will also be British rider Tao Geoghegan Hart, the opponent with whom he engaged in a memorable duel on the Alps in the autumn 2020 edition of the Giro d'Italia. A challenge for ambitious riders, therefore, that takes place in a territory where you can't bluff. A race for champions, which Jai Hindley is ready to experience as a protagonist.
