This weekend will host the European Cyclocross Championships in Zeddam, in the Netherlands. Zeddam is a hamlet in the municipality of Montferland where cyclocross is in the blood, and it hosted the cross World Championships in 2006.
The 2026 European titles will be awarded on Saturday for Junior women, Under 23 men, and Elite women. On Sunday there will be Europeans for Junior men, Under 23 women, and Elite men.
The Fas Airport Services – Guerciotti – Premac team once again proves to be a formidable reservoir for the Italian National team. No fewer than 6 cyclocross riders belonging to Fas Airport Services-Guerciotti-Premac will compete in Zeddam on the circuit designed by Belgian Erwin Vervecken and characterized by a very long staircase. On the 100 steps, Nicole Righetto will participate in the Junior women's race. Lucia Bramati will compete in the Elite race. The girl from Sandrigo recently challenged the strongest specialists in the Benelux region, placing herself in the top 10 positions as well.
The Apulian Francesco Dell'Olio is ready to battle with the best Juniors. The victories obtained in Italy and Switzerland boost the morale of the boy from Bisceglie. In the Under 23 women's competition, team owner Paolo Guerciotti's squad will have Elisa Ferri, current Italian Champion, and Giorgia Pellizotti, winner last Sunday of the international race at Mugello. For Giorgia, class of 2008, it was her first victory as a member of the Under 23 category.
The Venetian Federico Ceolin has been called up by Italian national team coach Daniele Pontoni to participate in the Elite race. In its glorious history, Paolo Guerciotti's team has won 11 Cyclocross World Championships. However, in the Milan trophy case there is currently only one European Champion jersey, won by Mattia Agostinacchio as a junior in the 2024-25 winter season. One more reason to face the Zeddam races with maximum determination.
"We are about to witness a very tough edition of the Europeans, especially for the Italians who are not used to racing on circuits with long staircases. When I, Daniele Pontoni, and Adrie Van Der Poel, Mathieu's father, participated in the World Cup race at Zeddam, there were even 130 steps. Now the staircase has been rebuilt in a different location, in the woods, and it's shorter," assures Luca Bramati, team manager of Fas Airport Services – Guerciotti – Premac. "Our riders are in good shape – Bramati continues – I am confident they will honor the Italian jersey".
