Cees Bol (Decathlon CMA CGM Team) won the fourth stage of the Tour of Britain by concluding a long breakaway with his arms raised. The 31-year-old from the Netherlands crossed the finish line in Leyburn ahead of Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) who also takes command of the general classification. Third place on the day, 21" behind the winner, went to Swiss rider Fabio Christen (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), followed further back by Ganna, Askey and all the other top contenders. Wellens now wears the leader's jersey and commands the standings on time with 21" over Lewis Askey and 40" ahead of Trentin.

THE STAGE Bol launched into a breakaway with other riders around the tenth kilometer of the 165 kilometers scheduled, managing to remain in command even when the breakaway's fate seemed sealed. The race saw the main peloton split into several groups as they chased the breakaway leaders. Around thirty riders remained in pursuit of the escapees, including Askey (NSN Cycling Team), Alessandro Pinarello (NSN Cycling Team), Jake Stewart (NSN Cycling Team) and, among others, Filippo Ganna (Netcompany INEOS), Matteo Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling Team), Jasper Stuyven (Soudal Quick-Step), Rick Pluimers (Tudor Pro Cycling Team), Elliot Rowe (Team Visma | Lease) and Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates – XRG).

In the final forty kilometers of the race, a two-man partnership formed between Bol and Wellens, who started this morning in second place overall. After working in unison to gain ground, the two attackers achieved their respective objectives for the day: victory for Bol and the leader's jersey for Wellens, which he will wear tomorrow at the start of the final stage of the British race, which will be held with start and finish in Earlston.
