Daniele Callà, a forty-two-year-old cyclist from Liguria and son of the president of the provincial cycling committee of Genoa, lost his life yesterday, Thursday, September 3rd, after being involved in an accident while cycling with his brother Simone along the Aurelia highway near Bogliasco.
The tragedy occurred shortly before 8:00 AM when – according to reports from Genova Today – a man driving a car, possibly due to a medical emergency, lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the opposite lane, hitting other cars before striking down the two cyclists who were traveling on the side of the road. The collision ended with the car crashing into a wall.
The driver, a seventy-nine-year-old man, died, while the woman who was with him in the car was transported to San Martino Hospital. Simone Callà is also hospitalized at the Genoa hospital, while the occupants of the other vehicles involved did not suffer serious injuries.
