Mathias Vacek (Lidl – Trek) won the opening time trial of the ZLM Tour which took place this afternoon in the surroundings of Kapelle in the Netherlands. The 24-year-old, Czech national champion in the discipline, covered the 21 kilometres on the programme at over 53 km/h average speed, recording a time of 23'43". In second place, 19" behind, was Denmark's Niklas Larsen (Unibet Rose Rockets) while Jakob Söderqvist, the winner's teammate, finished third with a deficit of 24".

Lidl Trek can also applaud the performances of Max Walscheid and Héctor Álvarez who completed the day's top-5.

Tomorrow the second stage is scheduled, which will challenge the athletes from Westkapelle to Heinkenszand for a total of 193 kilometres
