After putting on a spectacle alongside Vdp, the world champion confessed: «I am speechless, crazy atmo­sphere. Too bad about Vin­ge­gaard's withdrawal».

Six hun­dred meters before, Poga­car and the divine Mathieu Van Der Poel had torn up the Pari­sian pavement to seek the last vic­tory, the one denied to Pogi in 2025 by Wout Van Aert, the one that Mvdp had «dreamed and planned seeing it on tele­vision». On the most beautiful evening in the world Mathieu Van der Poel found something at the end of the straightaway of the Champs-Élysées, right where the Arc de triomphe stands out against the setting sun. «I drew strength from the tips of my toes» said the Dutchman, who escaped with Pogacar at Montmartre and was stronger than the group's furious return. He and Pogi went in tandem until 700 meters, then only Mathieu. Pogacar, however, joins Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault and Indurain: there are five now who have won five Tours de France. Even Brandon McNulty – sick and forced to withdraw – strained his vocal cords along with Tadej Pogačar and his teammates, all lined up like skewers against the barriers that, miraculously, held.
