Seventeen stages of waiting, missed opportunities, disappointments and criticism. Then, finally, Jasper Philipsen's smile illuminated the Tour de France, securing his first victory in this edition of the yellow jersey race. Philipsen has finally put an end to a complicated period that had risked shaking even his certainties, and the stress accumulated over these days can finally ease, leaving relief on the face of the sprinter. The Belgian from Alpecin-Premier Tech imposed himself with an authoritative sprint, crowning his team's perfect work and returning to celebrate in the most important race in the world.

For Philipsen, this is no ordinary victory. It is his eleventh career success at the Tour de France but probably one of the most hard-fought. On the eve of the Grande Boucle, he had declared that he felt in the best condition of his career, yet in the first sixteen stages nothing had gone according to plan.

The Belgian had arrived at the Tour convinced he could be a protagonist in the sprints. The legs were there, but the result continued to elude him. Several times he had found himself in the right positions, without being able to capitalize. Eventually the pressure had started to take its toll. "So far this Tour has been a succession of emotions. I had to wait until stage 17 for the victory – explained the Flemish rider after his win - I was well prepared and I was in the best form of my life. But those first twelve days were terrible."

A summary that perfectly tells the contrast between physical sensations and results. Philipsen was feeling good, but couldn't transform that condition into victories. The defeats had inevitably left their mark from an emotional point of view as well.
"I couldn't find myself, I couldn't find the right understanding. I was angry and very disappointed with myself. The team had to put up with me and support me: it wasn't pleasant".

So we return to the images that show us what happened in recent days, with the complicated moments experienced by the Belgian sprinter within the team. Despite the frustration, however, Alpecin-Premier Tech never stopped believing in their sprinter.
"Being able to achieve this victory is thanks to the trust the team has always placed in me. I am truly grateful to all of them".

When the decisive moment came, everything finally worked perfectly. Mathieu van der Poel and his teammates built an impeccable train, allowing Philipsen to play for the victory in the best possible conditions. Even though, for a moment, success seemed to have slipped away.
"This victory has cost me a few years of my life – joked the Flemish rider immediately after - Halfway through the sprint it seemed I had been boxed in between two groups and I thought I had lost everything. But the team continued to believe in me. They were truly very strong and accompanied me all the way to the finish line".

The result was a sprint dominated with authority, the one everyone had been waiting for since the start of the race. The most delicate moment was probably the mental one. For the first time in a long time, Philipsen admitted that he had started to question himself.

"I had done everything possible before the Tour, but I wasn't myself. Was it the heat or something else? I have no idea. I doubted myself. Mentally, it was a real roller coaster and I thought I would never be able to break through. I really have to thank those who continued to believe in me".

An admission that makes today's success even more significant, coming after weeks in which it seemed impossible to find the right key. Complicating the difficult moment further were also the comments on social networks, which the Belgian didn't hide having felt the impact of. "All the nastiness you read on Instagram and similar platforms. I really doubted myself". Fortunately, around him, the team closed ranks.

"I took refuge in the bubble of my team and they continued to believe in me".

A trust repaid with a victory that, as general manager Philip Roodhooft also pointed out, already makes Alpecin-Premier Tech's Tour a positive one. Today's success is not just a stage victory. Philipsen has indeed recovered important points in the points classification and now finds himself just seven lengths behind Mads Pedersen in the race for the green jersey.

"There are still some difficult stages ahead, but I will continue to fight all the way to Paris. First, though, I want to enjoy this victory".

With his morale restored and a team that continues to work perfectly around him, the Belgian can now face the final part of the Tour with a completely different spirit. After weeks spent chasing a success that seemed never to come, Jasper Philipsen has finally broken through. And, given the sensations he has rediscovered, this may not be the last joy of his 2026 Grande Boucle.
