YELLOW PAGES, THE TOUR DE FRANCE PRESS REVIEW

TOUR DE FRANCE | 19/07/2026 | 08:00
di Aldo Peinetti

On Sunday we read La Gazzetta Sportiva and not the Gazzetta dello Sport, but on the pink pages there is a recurring theme: that of "The Dominator". Ciro Scognamiglio, in recalling Tadej's confessions ("what suffering" «I was smiling? No, it was a grimace...») does not downplay the Slovenian's latest feat, after "155 kilometers pedaled in pure Tour de France fashion, that is without a moment's respite. A spectacle that left not only the multitude of people lining the roadside breathless, but also those who staged that spectacle. And therefore above all Tadej Pogacar: always him, yes".

On the Corriere, instead, Marco Bonarrigo brings the reader to the immediate eve of the stage: "Received in audience shortly before the start by King Tadej V, yesterday the volitive Danish rider Tobias Johannessen had the audacity to ask the Sovereign if a possible breakaway could hope for his clemency. 'Tadej was kind,' Tobias explained at the finish line, 'and didn't tell me directly no, but only advised me to try next week'". How human of him...

Besides, the definition of tyrant chosen by Repubblica does not seem excessive, where Cosimo Cito emphasizes the sky-high enthusiasm of the French: "In the Tour tyrannized by Pogacar, the French are discovering Paul Seixas. «It's pronounced in Portuguese, my paternal grandfather was born there.» Son of two karate champions, Emmanuel and Emmanuelle, the 19-year-old from Decathlon heard a roar at the finish, 3rd on the stage 38" behind Pogacar, as he crossed the line alongside Del Toro."

It falls to Pier Augusto Stagi on Il Giornale to spot for the first time the fatigue painted on Pogacar's face, at his 25th victory on the roads of France: "Because despite everything the days of racing are taking their toll and Jonas Vingegaard (4th at 44") puts everything into trying to put him in difficulty. Great Pogacar, but great all the officiants of this crazy race, which doesn't spare pedal strokes...".

L'Equipe, with Alexandre Roos, travels among the public of the Vosges who close ranks: "What sweet madness it was to throw ourselves into the last hundreds of meters of Col du Haag: that frantic corridor where it was worth losing a mirror just to make your way through and live that moment of pure euphoria". Imagine when Seixas passed, to whom a double page is dedicated through the story of his grandparents. José Manuel and Suzanne live in Upper Savoy, just steps from the Plateau de Solaison climb, they saw the very young Paul (as if he were now a veteran) ride out during the summer, often spent in the small village of Magland. The 85-year-old of Portuguese origin and his 19-year-old grandson will see each other again up there on the plateau after the finish. There's little more to add.

LA GAZZETTA SPORTIVA
THE DOMINATOR
How much beauty contained in just four hours, warm but soaked by rain, up and down in the Vosges for 155 kilometers pedaled in pure Tour de France fashion, that is without a moment's respite. A spectacle that left not only the multitude of people lining the roadside breathless, but also those who staged that spectacle. And therefore above all Tadej Pogacar: always him, yes. «I have to thank all the fans who came, something unforgettable. It looked like a grandstand on top of a climb, never seen anything like it. Moments like these make you love cycling», the first words of the world champion. (Ciro Scognamiglio)

CORRIERE DELLA SERA
POGACAR COMES FROM ANOTHER PLANET: AT THE TOUR HE'S WITHOUT RIVALS
Received in audience shortly before the start by King Tadej V, yesterday the volitive Danish rider Tobias Johannessen had the audacity to ask the Sovereign if a possible breakaway could hope for his clemency. «Tadej was kind,» Tobias explained at the finish line, «and didn't tell me directly no, but only advised me to try next week». The UAE team's plan was already outlined, watt after watt. To bring Pogi to his fourth success in this Tour on a beloved mountain (the Col du Haag) but where in 2023 the Slovenian had struggled, and then give a little push towards the podium and/or the white jersey to his lieutenant Del Toro. (Marco Bonarrigo)

REPUBBLICA
POGACAR PLAYS THE TYRANT
THE FRENCH CONSOLE THEMSELVES
WITH YOUNG SEIXAS
In the Tour tyrannized by Pogacar, the French are discovering Paul Seixas. «It's pronounced in Portuguese, my paternal grandfather was born there». Son of two karate champions, Emmanuel and Emmanuelle, the 19-year-old from Decathlon heard a roar at the finish, 3rd on the stage 38" behind Pogacar, as he crossed the line alongside Del Toro. It was the home crowd going wild, along with the rumble of thunder at some unspecified point. All day, in the sky, dense clouds and sun. For the French, clear skies and high pressure are predicted for many years, this kid knows what he wants and is not afraid to challenge Pogacar. He put Benoot ahead on the Col du Haag, a slope only passable by bike that until three years ago was used for the transhumance of cows to summer pastures. (Cosimo Cito)

IL GIORNALE
TOUR, POGACAR MAKES 25. CLAWS ON THE VOSGES, YELLOW IN THE SAFE (AND NEVER SO TESTED)
Still him, always him, for the fourth time in this Tour, for the 25th time in his career on the roads of France, but for the first time with fatigue painted on his face. Because despite everything the days of racing are taking their toll and Jonas Vingegaard (4th at 44") puts everything into trying to put him in difficulty. Great Pogacar, but great all the officiants of this crazy race, which doesn't spare pedal strokes, which doesn't measure strength with a scale, but these guys give it to each other with holy conviction that the Unbeatable has anyway a weak point, which at the moment is not to be seen. Taddeo wins for the fourth time amid the jubilation of enthusiasts who invade the Vosges with torrential passion. (Pier Augusto Stagi)

L'EQUIPE
A MARVEL
What sweet madness it was to throw ourselves into the last hundreds of meters of Col du Haag: that frantic corridor where it was worth losing a mirror just to make your way through and live that moment of pure euphoria. We were immersed in a crowd electrified by the simple joy of being there, on the roads of the Tour. A rare emotion, which accompanied us as we faced the human ocean at the summit: a veritable football stadium that rose before us – complete with cows in the upper stands – set in a landscape of rare beauty, made of arid meadows, peaks with gentle curves and rounded grassy slopes that seemed to touch the sky and caress white-gray clouds, puffy like meringues. Lacrime amare.
