YELLOW PAGES, THE TOUR DE FRANCE PRESS REVIEW

TOUR DE FRANCE | 06/07/2026 | 08:05

Pogacar's generosity towards Del Toro is captured in the large photograph in which the Slovenian clearly concedes victory to his young teammate. The images chosen are striking from virtually every outlet, particularly the shot... of the Torito's winning move on Montjuïc, teeming with spectators, as much as (if not more than) the day before.

Ciro Scognamiglio recalls in his opening on Gazzetta dello Sport: "At Strade Bianche 2025, Tadej Pogacar had launched himself into a prophecy that seemed somewhat ambitious: «One day it will be me pulling for him»". The same theme regarding Tadej's gracious gift is also tackled in different ways by Marco Bonarrigo in the Corriere, who in describing the Slovenian's kind concession imagines an Mbappé who doesn't shoot as fans would expect but passes the ball to a teammate, protects his escape from the defenders chasing him. Only in cycling.

On Repubblica, Cosimo Cito makes explicit reference to the game with a double strike by UAE, to the strong message from the team towards a rival forced to defend tooth and nail the symbol of supremacy. Pier Augusto Stagi writes on Il Giornale, dedicating his opening to the polka-dot man (for now) and the young man who brought Mexico back to winning a stage (a drought lasting since 1990, recalls La Vanguardia): "They don't break the bank, but they jump for joy, for a victory they absolutely wanted after the setback in Saturday's team time trial that ended behind Visma Lease and Bike and Netcompany". And while the Iberian press also describes the sense of emptiness that sets in in the host country after the Grand Départ, in France they would have liked to welcome the Tour with fullness, without the necessary restrictions on public attendance due to the Pyrenean fires. As for yesterday's racing facts, Alexandre Roos on L'Équipe clarifies the meaning of the headline "The Punishment", describing Tadej's diabolical plan: "He didn't win the stage, yet the lesson he taught Vingegaard – and everyone else – was even more severe".

GAZZETTA DELLO SPORT
PAIR OF ACES
At Strade Bianche 2025, Tadej Pogacar had launched himself into a prophecy that seemed somewhat ambitious: «One day it will be me pulling for him». He was teammate Isaac Del Toro, who still had to make his Giro d'Italia debut, which he finished in second place last year. That moment hasn't arrived yet, but what both showed yesterday in Barcelona on Montjuïc, the grand finale of the second stage of the Tour de France, was memorable. In fact, Pogi did what he wanted, at the culmination of a devastating display of superiority by the entire UAE-XRG. And he allowed himself to "accompany" the 22-year-old Mexican, making his Tour debut and already with arms raised, to the finish line. (Ciro Scognamiglio)

CORRIERE DELLA SERA
POGACAR IS ALSO GENEROUS: ESCORTS DEL TORO TO VICTORY
Imagine that, racing at full speed towards goal, Mbappé doesn't shoot as fans would expect but passes the ball to a teammate, protects his escape from the defenders chasing him and, when he realizes he won't be caught, accelerates and draws alongside him to share the joy of the goal with him. In the absence of imagination (and Mbappé) the last thousand meters of the second stage of the Tour help us, where yesterday Tadej Pogacar renounced his 122nd victory and the yellow jersey in favor of his Mexican protégé Isaac Del Toro with a masterpiece of timing, balance and tactical generosity, mistreating Vingegaard who had beaten him in the time trial on Saturday. (Marco Bonarrigo)

REPUBBLICA
POGACAR DOES IT FOR TWO: LAUNCHES DEL TORO AND PUTS PRESSURE ON VINGEGAARD
Pogacar launched his lieutenant Del Toro, almost pushed him to win the stage and saw Vingegaard struggling. The repeat on Montjuïc after Saturday's team time trial is all in favor of the Slovenian and is also a strong message to the yellow jersey, held with difficulty by his Danish rival: UAE, the team of Pogi and the Torito is here to race with two captains. (Cosimo Cito)

IL GIORNALE
POGACAR GENEROUS: LEAVES VICTORY TO TEAMMATE DEL TORO
They don't break the bank, but they jump for joy, for a victory they absolutely wanted after the setback in Saturday's team time trial that ended behind Visma Lease and Bike and Netcompany.
A day of glory for Tadej Pogacar's UAE Team Emirates XRG, which yesterday on the Montjuïc circuit also demonstrated absolute superiority. He lets his teammate Isaac Del Toro win and he, Taddeo, positions himself there, at his side, arriving in formation, but leaving him the taste of victory and giving the Emirati team a one-two that smells of revenge. (Pier Augusto Stagi)

L'ÉQUIPE
THE PUNISHMENT
Since Saturday's time trial, everyone wondered how Tadej Pogačar would react to Jonas Vingegaard's victory: how much it would burn to see his arch-rival wearing that yellow jersey that is usually his. The most obvious and brutal hypothesis was that he would try to drop Vingegaard during the triple climb to the Château, on the Montjuïc hill, to remind him that nothing would be easy and to nip in the bud the confidence that had blossomed on the evening of the first stage.
But the four-time Tour de France winner had architected a far more diabolical plan. He didn't win the stage, yet the lesson he taught Vingegaard – and everyone else – was even more severe. (Alexandre Roos)

LA VANGUARDIA
POGACAR'S GIFT
Yesterday Isaac del Toro became the first Mexican to win a Tour stage since 1990, thanks to a gesture from his UAE teammate, Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, who conceded victory to him. In the photo, the two are at the head of the group, followed by yellow jersey wearer Jonas Vingegaard. Yesterday Barcelona responded with great participation to the passage of the Tour de France stage at Montjuïc.
While Visma and Jonas Vingegaard struck the first blow in the Tour de France stage with finish at Montjuïc, it was UAE that dominated the race unchallenged during this second Barcelona outing of the *Grand Départ*. Thousands of fans, crowded along the steep ramps of Montjuïc castle, witnessed the superiority of stage winner Del Toro and Tadej Pogačar, who controlled all his rivals effortlessly on the final straight.
