To put it in the full-page headline of Mundo Deportivo, the enthusiasm of the Catalan city for the Grand Départ is captured in a kind of neologism: "TOURCELONA". Reports of the opening stage that resort to challenging comparisons, as Gazzetta dello Sport does with Ciro Scognamiglio, who referring to Vingegaard attacks like this: "This time it was he who did something in the manner of Indurain, Hinault, Merckx". If one has the courage and strength to rebel against the laws of physics that govern cycling, even a giant can fly as agile as a little bird conceived by nature to dominate the mountains. Were it not for that nothing (7"33 out of 22' of racing) that yesterday at Montjuïc separated the abundant 90 kilos of Filippo Ganna from the scant 58 of Jonas Vingegaard, we would celebrate the yellow jersey of the Piedmontese at the Tour de France after a thrilling time trial, free from an outdated regulation that imposed the stop to the time trial only at the passage of the fourth athlete of each team at the finish line and equal times for all. We passed red lights with total impunity; a breath of freedom pushed us from behind; leaves burned by the sun swirled in the wake of the team trains racing at breakneck speed; dust rose in great clouds; and there was the blue of the sea, small boats anchored placidly in the distance and the warm colors of Catalan flags – and flags from all over the world – that lined the route.
