The Professional Cycling League has a new vice president. Marco Toni, born in Milan in 1959, succeeds Giuseppe Saronni and was elected during the League assembly held on Friday in Cuneo on the eve of the elite national championship race.
An experienced and passionate executive, Toni can boast experience as a public administrator and for about a decade has been president of the Unione Ciclistica Sangiulianese, a historic Lombard cycling club active in youth categories and also promoter of the international junior competition "Gran Premio del Perdono".
Reached by phone by tuttobiciweb, Toni tells us that Friday's election came after the president of the Italian Cycling Federation Dagnoni and the Federal Council had proposed his candidacy. "I'm taking the place of Saronni, a great world champion. I don't have Beppe's palmares but I have an immeasurable passion for cycling. I started as an athlete with Sangiulianese, I pedaled and had a lot of fun. Then I was secretary of the club and over the years I have been involved in the Federation at provincial and regional level. Currently I am a member of the federal commission on Statute and Regulations," he explains to us.
Now this new role within the Professional Cycling League awaits him. An important commitment that Marco Toni is ready to carry out with his usual dedication: "I am honored to be able to contribute at such a crucial moment as the one we are experiencing. Obviously I feel a great responsibility. My hope is to be able to reconcile the positions of the League and Federation by promoting dialogue and collaboration to develop future projects. Always keeping in mind the good of our sport.
