In the printed press it is a day of illustrious opinions, demanding towards the leaders of this Giro and beyond, because it sounds like an authoritative warning what Paolo Bettini stated to the correspondent of La Stampa, Daniela Cotto; "beyond Ganna there is emptiness". On one point the two-time world champion and Vincenzo Nibali, interviewed by Gazzetta, agree: "Vingegaard must do more" - says the Shark, who urges Pellizzari to be bold ("he must go crazy"). For Nibali, however, "Vingegaard remains the favorite and will very probably win but... the Giro is not yet completely closed. In fact, it's open. And I expect much more from him".
Many call on Jonas to take center stage with a masterclass move, perhaps goading him (Ragionier Vingegaard is what Corsera calls him) and that's fair. Repubblica will do it too, but perhaps tomorrow, because today Cosimo Cito chooses an apparent digression, making a stop at Stella, the hometown of the unforgettable President of the Republic, Sandro Pertini. What emerges is a vivid description of the places, including the old birthplace, where a bicycle is proudly displayed. Pertini, whose connection to sport is often associated with his celebration at the Bernabéu during the 1982 World Cup final, was above all a great cycling enthusiast, the sport of the people par excellence. Meanwhile, in the post-race coverage, Il Giornale (The young Segaert outwits the sprinters) and L'Equipe (The sprinters' lost opportunity) go hand in hand, setting an appointment for the sprinters in Milan. Pier Augusto Stagi notes: "it is the land of chocolate (Novi), but the Bric Berton turns out to be very bitter for sprinters like Milan, Magnier and Van Uden".

NIBALI, IT'S AN OPEN GIRO
VINGEGAARD YOU MUST DO MORE
No one more than him has marked the recent history of the Giro d'Italia. Vincenzo Nibali conquered it twice, in 2013 and 2016: he is still the last Italian to have succeeded. And then, broadening the field to six participations between 2011 and 2019, he always finished on the podium: this gives him a small record. The Shark discovered the Gazzetta race on May 12, 2007 debuting with a team time trial in the La Maddalena archipelago, he said goodbye on May 29, 2022 inside the Arena of Verona, but continues not to miss a minute as an observer. Sunday he is expected at the finish line in Milan, meanwhile he analyzes the situation for us when nine stages remain until the end - yesterday's stage to Segaert, Eulalio still in pink - starting from a non-trivial consideration: "Vingegaard remains the favorite and will very probably win but... the Giro is not yet completely closed. In fact, it's open. And I expect much more from him". (Ciro Scognamiglio)

VINGEGAARD, THE ACCOUNTANT AND THE GIRO - THE MINIMUM EFFORT STRATEGY
Along with sprinters, climbers and all-rounders, in the old cycling manuals there was always the finisher, an athlete capable of managing his strength to excel in the final stages of the race, as rare as he was loved by fans. Generally tall, with long levers, powerful and stable, our man would activate his radar to sniff out the right moment (a curve, a moment of group relaxation) and go all out (the "burst") outwitting the sprinters. Ideal models, the Brescian Guido Bontempi in the Eighties, the Swiss Fabian Cancellara in the new millennium, until the role was put in crisis by the tight control of the big teams. After so long, yesterday at the Giro d'Italia an old-style finisher was spotted, the Belgian Alec Segaert, 23 years old, teammate of pink jersey Eulalio. (Marco Bonarrigo)
REPUBBLICA
AMONG MEMORIES, BELOVED PIPES AND THE OLD BIKE
THE GIRO AT PERTINI'S HOME
After Savona and Albisola, after the sea, the Giro entered the truest Liguria, the most elusive. At the bottom of an unimaginable sky was the Beigua with its emerald trees and in the middle of the green mantle, bell towers and lost villages but only apparently. A road, a mule track, a path, a logic always exists, you just have to look for it. As soon as the road began to climb, on the right there was Stella. (Cosimo Cito)
LA STAMPA
BETTINI: "VINGEGAARD IS TRAINING FOR THE TOUR. ITALY, BEYOND GANNA THERE IS EMPTINESS"
"The inclusive ride was a moment of reflection for all of us. An interesting experience that I shared with my friend Fabrizio Macchi (bronze at the Athens 2004 Paralympics) who has one leg, but rides a bike. I have to say that I'm lucky but people like him give great energy". The observations of Paolo Bettini are always interesting and profound, gold at the Athens 2004 Games, world champion in 2006 and 2007, the penultimate Italian to wear the rainbow jersey. Testimonial for Banca Mediolanum and acute observer of an interlocutory stage, the Imperia-Novi Ligure, which did not reward any Italian. (Daniela Cotto)
IL GIORNALE
YOUNG SEGAERT OUTWITS THE SPRINTERS: THE BELGIAN'S ATTACK AND NO SPRINT
In the city of the Campionissimi, the champions let things happen. You expect the sprinters and instead out comes a young Belgian guy of 23 years old who goes and takes stage number 12. All it takes is an acceleration 3200 meters from the finish line to shuffle the cards and get the satisfaction of winning his first stage in a Grand Tour. For Alec Segaert that's big stuff. Behind him, his compatriot Toon Aerts (Lotto Intermarché) and Guillermo Thomas Silva (XDS Astana Team), ninth our Edoardo Zambanini (Bahrain – Victorious). Novi, besides being the land of Girardengo – the first Campionissimo in history - and of a young Coppi who left from here to become Campionissimo, is the land of chocolate (Novi), but the Bric Berton turns out to be very bitter for sprinters like Milan, Magnier and Van Uden. Those who expected a sprint were disappointed: dropped and delayed, it will be for next time: in Milan. (Pier Augusto Stagi)
L'EQUIPE
THE SPRINTERS' LOST BATTLE
The indescribable beauty of Liguria and its roads overlooking the sea invited yesterday to relaxing rides and the pleasure of enjoying the first scorching sun. In a sort of reverse Milan-Sanremo, between Imperia and Novi Ligure, the Giro group did not have this privilege. On the contrary, it suffered on the road and in the heat. Especially the sprinters, who won't have another chance to battle in the group until Milan on Sunday and Rome a week later. (Thomas Perotto)

SEGAERT SWEET NOVI, EULALIO GAINS 6"
In the "City of the Campionissimi" the Belgian all-rounder Alec Segaert triumphs and this is a good omen. The winner of the Imperia-Novi Ligure stage has all the characteristics to join the club of the greats. Alec, 23 years old, was born in Roeselare, a city in West Flanders that gave birth to the great sprinter Patrick Sercu (13 stages won at the Giro d'Italia, 6 at the Tour de France). The prodigy label has always accompanied Segaert, who in Italy became European Junior Time Trial Champion. (Alessandro Brambilla)

EULALIO'S ENERGY
"How was your day today?" The question posed to the surprising stage winner Alec Segaert was none other than the pink jersey himself. "It started in the best way, because I woke up next to Afonso Eulalio and he transmitted positive energy to me", replied the amused twenty-three-year-old Belgian, recounts a curious behind-the-scenes detail given that the two were roommates.
