It could have been the opportunity for a hat-trick of victories, but bad weather prevented Vingegaard from unleashing himself on the planned uphill finish at Auron, which was cancelled due to rain, cold and snow. The seventh stage of Paris-Nice was shortened multiple times for safety reasons, but Jonas Vingegaard, with his yellow leader's jersey firmly on his shoulders, was not entirely satisfied at the finish line in Isola.
"Rain is part of our job but when there's snow it's a bit different. I think it was very important to race, and obviously they (the organizers, ed.) would have wanted a stage to take place – explained the 29-year-old Dane from Visma-Lease a Bike. However, I still think it could have gone differently, and that we could have stopped earlier. The ground is still slippery, and if we had stopped 10 kilometers earlier it would have been better".
There were also some crashes near the finish line, including that of Harold Tejada of Astana: Vingegaard himself was slowed down, but didn't hit the ground. "I'm fine, I braked at the right moment and wasn't involved, I hope everyone else is okay too. We have another day ahead of us, hopefully the weather improves. And I hope to have the jersey tomorrow as well," concludes the Dane, who leads the general classification with 3'22" over Colombian Dani Martinez (Red Bull-Bora) and 5'50" over German Georg Steinhauser.
