He is the national team coach Roberto Amadio, and he has decided to share his illness story with SportWeek, the magazine of Gazzetta dello Sport, directed by Pier Bergonzi. He chose to open up to Ciro Scognamiglio, who gathered his thoughts, but we invite you to read the full interview in the magazine on newsstands this morning. Here we propose only a few excerpts.
Amadio, let's start with what can be defined as "an unwelcome guest". How are you facing it?
«Like a stage race, and from a mental perspective, having been a cyclist... helps. It's a comparison that has often come to mind. There are good days, and less good days. However, I have an objective to reach, without a doubt. Very clear in my spirit. To heal».
Can you tell us when you discovered the illness?
«A few months ago. I had some strange symptoms. So I called a friend, Dr. Roberto Corsetti (cardiologist and historic cycling doctor who still follows the national team, editor's note). A long-time friend, we've known each other for at least twenty years. He had the right intuition».
Which was?
«He sent me to do tests right away, and then he recommended the urology unit at San Raffaele in Milan, and in particular Professor Francesco Motorsi and Dr. Vito Cucchiara. They are following me as well as possible and I am very satisfied, plus continuously monitored...».
