It would come as no surprise if the song "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens were playing over the loudspeakers of the Konya Velodrome, where the European track championships are taking place: father and son are indeed on the track and racing together. We are talking about Eduard Žalar, a Slovenian born in 1975, and his son Val, thirty years his junior.
The two, dressed in the green body of their national team, took part yesterday in the kilometer qualifications where Eduard recorded a time almost three seconds faster than his son. Beyond results and performances, what emerges from the continental championship is certainly a beautiful story of shared passion for sport, and cycling in particular.
For the record, Eduard and Val returned to the track together this morning to warm up, with more races and emotions to be shared awaiting them.
