The 2025 road cycling season concludes with an extraordinary demonstration of power and talent. Two names dominate the global scene: Tadej Pogačar and Demi Vollering. Both have left an indelible mark on the year, bringing their respective teams – UAE Team Emirates XRG and FDJ-Suez – to the top of the UCI world ranking.
In the men's category, Tadej Pogačar reaffirmed his status as number one with an exceptional season. After a historic 2024, he surpassed his limits by winning twenty additional victories, including the rainbow jersey for the road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Kigali (Rwanda) and a fourth Tour de France title. With a record total of 11,680 points, he maintains the first place in the men's UCI world ranking for the fifth consecutive year.
"Every season is a new challenge. I am proud of what we have achieved together" said the Slovenian champion. His individual dominance was matched by a collective triumph: UAE Team Emirates XRG dominated the season with 95 victories – breaking the previous record of 85 victories held by the Columbia-HTC team since 2009 – and a total of 40,637.65 points, securing the first place in the UCI world team ranking for the third consecutive year. Two teammates also stood out among the top five worldwide: Isaac Del Toro (MEX) third and João Almeida (POR) fifth.
On the women's front, Demi Vollering reclaimed the top of the UCI women's world ranking with 4,642.57 points, thanks to a stellar season characterized by victories at Strade Bianche Donne, La Vuelta Española Femenina by Carrefour.es, Itzulia Women, Volta Catalunya Femenina, and the UEC Road Championships. Her new team, FDJ-Suez, dethroned Team SD Worx-Protime by conquering the first place in the UCI world team ranking for the first time.
Alongside her, Lorena Wiebes shone with 25 victories, confirming Dutch supremacy while the Netherlands lead the UCI world nation ranking with 14,422.99 points. "My goal was to succeed as a team. I am proud of what we have achieved," said Vollering, who now aims for the yellow jersey at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift and the rainbow stripes at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships.
This season will be remembered for its legendary duels. Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard (DEN), the latter dominating the UCI world ranking for stage races ahead of the Slovenian, offered an unprecedented spectacle in the Grand Tours, culminating in an epic Tour de France. In the women's group, Wiebes and Vollering embodied two styles and one ambition: to write the next chapter of cycling history. With 1,634 riders representing 114 nations scoring points, global cycling has never been so competitive. The stage is already set for even more intense battles in 2026.
The various trophies will be presented to the winners by UCI President David Lappartient during the first events of the 2026 season.
